Zil finished his AKC championship at 10 months old with 5 majors. Since he was so young and not ready to compete with the older Specials we didn't show much in 2009 and the beginning of 2010.
Zil got his first Working Group Placement on November 14, 2010 in Huntsville, Al. I thank Judge Anne Marie Taylor for this placement and also her very nice comments after the show that she has been looking for a very nice BRT to recognize with a Group Placement. 2011 was our unbelievable year of accomplishments. Zil finished as the #1 Black Russian Terrier in Breed Standings, the #2 in All Breed Standings, became the first American Bred BRT to win the Nationals, and went Best of Breed at the Eukanuba National Championship. 2012 got off to a great start, having won both the 1st Black Russian Terrier Club of New Jersey specialty show and 3 days later went Best of Breed at the Westminster Kennel Club. At the end of December 2014, Zil has approximately 85 Group Placements in his 2 year career with 11 Working Group First Place. Zil finished 2012 as #1 in both Breed and All Breed in big style with a 262 point lead in Breed competition over the #2 dog and a 2034 point lead over the #2 in All Breed competition. Zil finished up his show career after becoming the only Platinum Grand Champion in AKC Breed history with 804 Grand Champion points. Zil is still currently the ONLY Black Russian Terrier to win the Triple Crown....Nationals, Eukanuba and Westminster Kennel Club. In 2010, since he was really too young for the special ring, we concentrated on Obedience and Zil got his RN in 3 shows and his CD in 4 shows. We aren't the most serious trainers in the world, but we do plan to go through to RE and CDX. I think Zil's real future lies in doing Therapy work with kids. He just loves kids! Zil is a great ambassador for the breed. If you see him at a show in the Group ring, he and David will be working the crowd while they are waiting for the other dogs to show. Everybody wants to know what kind of dog they are, and Zil is more than happy to meet and greet while they are waiting. He is a fun dog to meet, to watch and to live with. People ask where his name came from. It's a long story.... Zilya - I wanted a name that started with a Z, in memory of Ziven (our first male BRT) who died a few months before Zil was born. Chicago - where he was born Blues - he was "big blue boy" in the litter, and musically his dad loves to listen to the Blues and Blues/Rock Fusion - it was the "F" litter and fusion is the combination of 2 genre of music (like Blues/Rock) Runes - Kennel name of the Woicek's, Zil's breeders who did such a wonderful job breeding and socializing this litter. The meaning of the letters in his name: RBIS - Reserve Best in Show Winner MBISS- Multiple Best in Specialty Show Winner (meaning that he has gone best of breed in more than one specialty show) GCH - AKC Grand Champion CD - Companion Dog Title (Obedience/Performance Title) RN - Rally Novice Title (Obedience/Performance Title) TT - American Temperament Test Society certification of proper temperament for the breed. Very interesting test - search for it on You Tube. CGC - AKC Canine Good Citizen test |

Absolutely delightful temperament. He likes to meet new people, and is fine with all other animals. Rock solid disposition, shows no fear of strange places, strange noises (including gun shot) or strange people. To me, he is exactly what a Black Russian should be, protective, yet a very good sense of when something is no threat and there is no need for defense. We have a lot of beautiful pictures of Zil, but these 3 shots are perhaps the best of them all: |
